Varala Nature Hotel & Sport Resort

we really enjoyed our stay here. It was a little different than expected, but our expectations were only bettered by our actual experience. Firstly, it is different to any place we have stayed before. It is classed as a hostel, but the rooms are better than many hotels we have stayed in. We had a room with a lake view, and we spent hours just gazing out at the amazing scenery outside. The property is a little out of town, but its only a few short minutes drive to the centre. We approached from the Turku side initially, and the GPS brought us via some hilly, windy route, but we saw later that it is super-easy to get to town. As for the property itself, the check-in experience was very fast and efficient. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and could not have been more helpful. The room itself was a generous size. It was clean and comfortable and we loved the view. We didn't make use of the facilities but there looked to be so much to do there. We will definitely plan a longer stay next time and make better use of what was right there. Breakfast was basic, but fine. Plenty of healthy options as they are used to a lot of sportier folk staying there. We will definitely be back.

Not much. We thought everything was pretty much perfect. The one thing we would have liked is access to a kitchen. But we coped fine without.

I think the experience was good and we plan to come along with the kids during the summer holidays. Otherwise, it would have been beyond bounds if our request for a double bed was considered.

Breakfast buffet not versatile. Ok but nothing special

The location is very nice. Beautiful lake view, there is also an adventure park right in front of the hotel. Room was nice and clean in general.

When I arrived with my partner there was a strong smell of urine in the bathroom, but that thankfully went away after a shower. Breakfast wasn't anything special.

Clean spacious room, friendly staff, nice location on the lakeside at beautiful Pyynikki area. Breakfast was included, not overwhelming but pretty ok. Good connection to the city center by bus. Lots of outdoor & sports activities.

No possibility to buy coffee or snacks after restaurant and reception was closed. (Only soda in vending machines.) So, bring your own evening treats or late night snacks – but beware that there is no electric kettle or a fridge in the room.

The hotel is beautifully located at the lake, surrounded by forests. This is a great place for walks, other outdoor activities or swimming (we did not try as it was too cold). There is a sufficient parking space in front of the hotel.

Unfortunately this is an old hotel (or at least it looks old), the rooms are small, very basic, not cosy at all. The whole building and infrastructure seems to be adjusted for school camps or so (there are even some „classrooms”). The worst thing which destroyed my opinion completely is breakfast. I do not recall a breakfast like that in any of the hotels I have ever stayed in. Literally you could have a boiled egg, cheese, “ham”, some milk, porridge, lettuce, tomato, bread, coffee, tea, water. This is it. All served as it the school canteen.
